Retirement homes are those places where old people go to live so that someone can take care of them at all times. With modern society becoming very fast and more and more people getting displaced, many face a problem when they have to take care of their aging parents. And anyway, in most cases, parents today are left all alone as soon as the young person attains maturity and moves away to live separately. Retirement homes come in very handy at these times, as at least these people get some care at least.

There are many who also believe that these homes are good in another way. This is because seniors get good company here as they are staying with similar people who think and behave alike. Thus they actually feel more at home.

Retirement homes are also referred to as RCFE’s, or Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly. These homes need to be licensed by the Department of Social Services before they can take in seniors as boarders. The department says that these homes should have at least 1 caregiver on the premises at all times to assist the senior residents.

Most retirement homes are really small places where a handful stays to lead a few quite years in peace. Rooms are both shared and private. Bathrooms are also available both attached and shared. Meals, laundry, housekeeping, transportation and doctor appointments are usually included. Generally there is 1 caregiver for 3-4 residents. They meet quite often and this allows the caregivers and the boarder to form a close bond, which many seniors prefer. There are retirement homes that even allow a senior to keep a pet.

Most retirement homes in the country today are owned and operated by individuals or families. But one thing can be said, most of these homes do indeed make the life of seniors comfortable and are better than living or skilled nursing facilities.
