A retirement party is a big occasion. Not only for the person who is retiring but also for his dear colleagues, who will never have him/her at office again. It is also a big occasion for the management as it can show that the company is grateful for the years of service rendered and wish the person for the rest of his/her life. But the retirement party is probably the most important for the person who is calling it a day. After 30-35 years of service when someone retires, it is always a sad occasion. The person is in a mellow mood, reflecting on the years gone, the achievements and the lost opportunities, the happy days and the sad days. The person wants to thus take home memories of the retirement day, reflect what his colleagues said and go through again and again the gifts received. It is a touching an emotional time for all.

A retirement party thus needs to be planned carefully. For the convenience of all who have someone retiring, here are some retirement party ideas.

Timeline: If a timeline of the entire work life at the office can be created, it would be excellent. This would start at the day the person appeared for the interview. The next instance can be the day when the offer letter was issued and the day of joining, the first birthday spent at office and the like. It can go on like this and include all the promotions he or she got and all the achievements. If the person got any awards, then special mention about it needs to be made. It can include a sort of testimonials from people who have worked with him/her - both colleagues and supervisors. The timeline can end on the day of the retirement with the retirement party.

Party Menu: The party menu can be customized to include at least one dish that the person loved.

Retirement Video: A retirement video is a wonderful memory to keep for old-times-sake. Colleagues can be asked to perform some skits or do some other tributes. Then at the party, the video can be showed and later the retiree can take it home.
